Organisation
Mandated by the European Commission to support the EU Research and Innovation policy, the European Research Executive Agency (REA), funds high-quality research and innovation projects that generate knowledge for the benefit of society. The REA also manages promotion measures concerning agricultural products.
Accordingly, the REA's responsibilities are to:
•Manage research projects supported under Horizon Europe, the world's largest framework programme for research and innovation to date, running from 2021 to 2027.
•Manage research projects supported under Horizon 2020, the previous framework programme for research and innovation (2014-2020).
•Implement the European Union programmes Promotion of agricultural products and Research Fund for Coal and Steel, as well as ongoing projects funded under the EU's 2014-2020 budget.
•Assist funding and tender applicants, beneficiaries and independent experts.
•Manage the European Commission's Research Enquiry Service, which answers questions from grant applicants, EU-funded researchers and the public.
•Support independent experts evaluating project proposals competing for EU research funds.
•Assist with the legal and financial validation of all European Union programme grants and procurement operations directly funded by the European Commission.
REA is based in Brussels with a multinational team of around 1000 persons.
In order to fill 1 vacant post in REA unit B.1 – Future Low Emission Industries, the European Research Executive Agency (REA) is currently looking for a new collaborator as Legal Officer (contract agent FGIII).
The Unit's mission is to ensure the modernisation of the EU's coal and steel sectors by funding research and innovation projects aiming to reduce their emissions, to support the sectors' contribution to the European Green Deal's goals and to achieve a just transition towards a climate-neutral economy.
To this end, the Unit is entrusted, on behalf of the European Commission, with the management and implementation of the Research Fund for Coal and Steel whose roots stem from the European Coal and Steel Community. B1 is responsible for launching calls for proposals, selecting and funding projects and monitoring their outcomes.
Under the Horizon Europe, B1 will also support the implementation of the European Partnership for Clean Steel that aims to foster the transformation of the steel industry into a climate-neutral sector. This action will complement the research activities of the RFCS offering to the steel sector a complete set of opportunities.
The Unit also provides policy feedback to the European Commission and contributes to the communication, dissemination, exploitation and assessment of projects' results, as well as the publication of relevant reports and information.

REA is a multicultural and dynamic body set up by the European Commission in 2007, originally for implementing parts of the Seventh EU Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration activities. In 2021, the Commission again extended the REA's mandate, until 2027, delegating to it additional actions of H2020 and Horizon Europe.

The successful candidate will work in Function Group III as Legal Officer. The level of responsibilities is set in accordance with the Function Group.
Under the supervision of the Head of Sector Administration and Finance, the successful candidate will contribute to the main functions and duties of the unit, as described in the Vacancy Notice.
